SOHO in Ottakring is transforming. Following a period of conversion and renovation work in Viennas 16th district at Sandleitenhof, SOHO in Ottakring will open a COMMUNITY / ART / CENTER in the old cinema (Spring 2021) and studios for artists in the old museum (Summer 2021).
Sandleitenhof is the largest community housing complex built during the era of Red Vienna and is located on the Western edge of Ottakring near the Vienna Woods.
SOHO 2020: Autumn program
From October 8th til December 10th, SOHO in Ottakring 2020 offers a multi-faceted, publicly accessible program of events on the subject of “sustainable living”. The events are a starting point for future activities at the COMMUNITY / ART / CENTER.
The program will be held by Karsten Michael Drohsel, city and regional planner, artist and designer, in collaboration with the artist Irene Lucas. It includes hands-on formats such as workshops on “Public Food Design”, on food production and supply as well as cooking. Lectures, roundtables, and film screenings will also be offered. A detailed schedule will published on a monthly basis.
Until the opening of the COMMUNITY / ART / CENTER in the old cinema, the program venue is a street-view space at Sandleitenhof called “R1”. The address is Rosa-Luxemburg-Gasse 1 across the street from the public library.
Project manager Karsten Michael Drohsel: “We are convinced that a local society that sees itself as a community of solidarity can well master the challenges of the future and give its children a good, healthy start into the future. ”
The workshops and participation formats address residents in and around Sandleitenhof and interested parties of all age groups with the offer to become familiar with food culture as well as with its production.
Participation is free, unless otherwise announced in the program.
To protect the participants, the current Corona-protection-and-distance-rules apply to all events!

All who are interested are invited to watch, taste the dishes and join in a conversation with the cooking artists. In addition, various initiatives from the 16th district are invited to share their views on food and nutrition. In public discussions, new solar dishes, sustainable technologies and innovative forms of cooking such as slow food, fermentation, growing sprouts will be discussed.

]]>“You shouldn´t play with food“, adults often say. But why not? What if you eat your food well behaved after having played with it?
That’s what this program is all about: the playful approach to food, colors, textures and, above all, unknown food that you may have missed so far (who likes kohlrabi?).
